My name is Brian and I am 44 years old. I have been overweight and out of shape for years, averaging 275 most of my adult life. Twice before now, I managed to bring my weight down below 210 but failed to maintain it, gaining every bit of it back. I lost my gallbladder in 2003 and started to suffer from back pain in 2005. In 2009 I was diagnosed with Spondylosis, a degenerative arthritis of the spine. The following year, I had back surgery to fuse two vertebrae in my upper back. Not too long after that, I developed high blood pressure and high cholesterol, starting medications for both. At that point I was pushing 280. I managed to lose 10 pounds or so but couldn’t stay consistent. My wife and I decided that it was time for us to get a gym membership together and when I arrived at the gym on 7/14/2011 I was a mess weighing in at 271.
With the help of my awesome wife and Justin’s coaching, the tables have finally turned. Along with some genuine self-reflection, good nutrition, proper exercise, and the benefit of things like trigger point therapy, I was able to eliminate my high blood pressure and high cholesterol and throw away the medications for both. Due to my degenerative condition, I am still facing another surgery on my upper back. However, I am now protecting my lower back by maintaining my core in an effort to battle the Spondylosis and am in much better shape. Right now I am very close to reaching my initial goal of 200 pounds. I am in my second year of being in better shape and health and in the process of setting new goals. I now have my life back and am in control of it instead of it controlling me.
I am sharing this story with you because if I can do it so can you. If you read this and are struggling with your own health, fitness, and well-being, rest assured that you are never alone and you can do it. You have to look inside and find you in there somewhere trying to get out from under all the things that have controlled you up to now. Go get busy and stay fit friends! Always know that I am right beside you, doing the same.”
