WHY: Because at 53 years old, you start to understand what they say about your body growing old and getting revenge on you. So, rather than looking forward to being shut in by the time I’m in my seventies, I want to be mobile, active and vital until I’m in my nineties.

HOW: I was so fortunate to be given an opportunity to work with Justin Murphy and as part of a fitness challenge through my employer that I couldn’t pass it up. For the first three months, I followed directions (mostly) and did all of my activities(also mostly). Once the challenge was over, I took my winnings (because I was one of the top performers) and invested them in another three months of training; Mid-December through mid-March.

Yesterday, we had our monthly training call and I cannot explain how empowered I have become with my own journey into fitness. I do look forward to seeing the numbers on the scale continue going down, but more importantly I look forward to getting strong (my goal is to do pull ups), and to being able to enjoy physical activities again(biking and hiking), to be there for my grandchildren and maybe their children too, and to be a role model for anyone who might have the slightest bit of interest in doing something to show themselves that they matter.

“Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Mt 17:20
