All About Bodybuilding

nutrition coaching with Justin Murphy

I am the co-owner of L2 Fitness, a Private Personal Training Studio in Edmonton, AB that I run with my wife Laura Poburan. I also work as an Online Nutrition Coach and help mentor Fitness Professionals in scaling their businesses. I have always lived an active life even before health and fitness became my profession. I grew up watching my brothers play sports, and from a young age I can remember shooting hoops at half-time in whatever city they happened to be playing in. That sparked my initial passion into sports, specifically Volleyball and Basketball. Sports, and possibly getting girls, is what initially drew me into the weight room. I believe I started “Working Out” when I was around 13 years old. Likely performing bicep curls and working on my 6-pack! Fast forward… A national, Jr. Olympic, and college appearance with Volleyball, I eventually scratched the itch to do bodybuilding. This had been a passion of mine for some time but I can’t quite put my figure on when that itch started. In 2010, I ran into a mentor of mine in Best Buy (O yeah, I was a Nerd, too). I sheepishly said “Hi”, and that was the spark I needed to take the leap into bodybuilding. I eventually competed in 4 bodybuilding competitions, and 2 powerlifting meets over the course of about 6 years. I’ve done it all. I have dieted and bulked more times than I can count. I have done a lot of things wrong over the years. I’ve eaten so much during a bulk that I can’t even recognize myself and I’ve dieted and restricted to the extreme where my waist was smaller than my wife’s. I’ve been extreme and I’ve been flexible. I’ve seen the binging that restriction can bring, and the freedom that flexibility can bring. I’ve experienced a time when I didn’t care what I looked like or what the scale said before bodybuilding and I’ve experienced times where having abs wasn’t good enough and I’d call myself “Fat”. Body dysmorphia in men is a real thing. Through the years my passion for health and fitness became a passion to help others. In 2013, I switched careers and my lunch breaks and evenings filled with reading research became my mission to help others reach their goals without the missteps I took. I now lead a mission to help people through education, integration, and transformation. I believe people need to be educated not only on the proper ways to diet but to be educated on the bigger picture. Education on how our nutrition and weight loss goals impact, and are impacted by other aspects of our lives. And, how the importance of integrating a plan to fit our life is the #1 factor in creating your best life. It’s not just about reaching your goals but being comfortable staying there. My mission is to help you do just that.
