Isn’t it true that everyone has the same 24 hours each day?
If so, then why is it that some people seem to be way more productive than others?
Over the last few months I have learned the importance of an exercise called time blocking. Time blocking is one of the most simplistic ways to set yourself up for a productive successful week. Every Sunday morning, I wake up, grab coffee, and head right to my office to plan out my week. This Sunday morning ritual has become a practice in my life that is 100% non-negotiable!
So how do I time block?
1.) Create a google account
2.) Pull up google calendar
3.) Time block all work obligations
4.) Time block all family obligations
5.) Time block social events
6.) Time block workouts
7.) Time block when you will wake up and go to bed
8.) Time block breakfast, lunch, and dinner
9.) Etc.
After time blocking for the week ahead, I have created the awareness needed in order to set myself up for a productive & successful week!
Life at this point starts to become very binary, black or white. I either plan ahead in order to set myself up for success or I don’t. At the end of my week, I reassess my productivity in order to learn from what worked and what didn’t. Some weeks are better than others and that’s perfectly ok, but not taking the time to make this practice a priority is a recipe for complacency.
This process is one that takes time to fully grasp. Don’t get frustrated with yourself or give up after one week! This practice took me a few months to get down and I still make mistakes. If time blocking for a week scares you, try starting with just one day. Gradually work this practice into your life and watch your productivity sore!
Try it out! Let me know how it goes.
