Nutrition coach

Ellen Rice, RD, LDN, CSSD

Hi my name is Ellen! I am a Registered Dietitian and a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics.

But let’s start at the beginning of my nutrition journey. My interest in nutrition began as a high school athlete (swimming, soccer, and cheerleading) where I realized how important nutrition was to performance and leading a healthy life. I chose to study nutrition at The Ohio State University where I received my Bachelor’s degree with a minor in Exercise Science. I then completed my Dietetic Internship and Masters work at Bowling Green State University. I have spent 5+ years working in hospitals in both Ohio and North Carolina where I saw patients with cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and various other health issues and diseases.

Working with illness and injury always reminds me how important nutrition is for both recovery and prevention but I found that this focus is not limited to the sick or the hurt. It also applies for active individuals and everyday health. As you may remember my interest in nutrition started as a young athlete and this is where the story comes full circle.

While I am not an elite athlete I have always enjoyed staying active and encouraging others to do the same. I have been a gymnastics coach and a soccer coach and I started doing CrossFit about three years ago and fell in love with the workouts and the community. Last year I made a huge transition from the hospital to pursue a career as a Sports Dietitian and today I get to work in athletics full time. I now have experience with collegiate and professional athletes, Strongman competitors and CrossFit athletes of all levels.

Food is the fuel that runs the body. We wouldn’t knowingly put bad gasoline into our cars, and I believe we should be just as mindful when we choose foods to fuel our lives. I love helping people navigate a world of food trends and fad diets so that fueling your health is as simple as possible. I practice what I preach and use my experience and the experience of the people that I work with to help you create a nutrition plan that best fits your life and your goals.

5 things I love about being a dad 👇⁣
⁣
First off, I will say that becoming a dad has completely changed my life! It is a huge blessing. It’s also a huge responsibility. I always joke that I used to think entrepreneurship was hard. Pshh now I think entrepreneurship is easy compared to raising a human.⁣
⁣
Shout out to all of the moms and dads out there!⁣
⁣
Especially the moms, @alexdmurph you are the real MVP 💯⁣
⁣
Tag a mom or dad below 👇⁣
⁣
1.) I love being a dad because I mean look at this kid! How could you not love this little human!?⁣
⁣
But seriously, he is my pride and joy. I can’t wait to experience the journey of raising this baby into a boy and a boy into a man. Wish me luck 😉⁣
⁣
2.) I love being a dad because getting Josiah out of bed in the morning literally melts my heart. ⁣
⁣
He is all smiles and it is one of my favorite parts of working from home. ⁣
⁣
3.) I love being a dad because when I am stressed or sad, this kid puts a smile on my face :)⁣
⁣
Regardless of what is going on in my life, my son needs me. That is both humbling & inspiring.⁣
⁣
4.) I love being a dad because I constantly have someone to set an example for.⁣
⁣
Again, this is both humbling & inspiring. ⁣
⁣
5.) I love being a dad because my little man just started saying “Da Da”⁣
⁣
That’s right, his little voice saying Da Da, well kinda is also one of those brief moments in time that makes all of the sacrifice worth it.⁣
⁣
Becoming a dad has been a blessing that I am so thankful for.⁣
⁣
Josiah is only 8.5 months old, but I plan on doing a few of these throughout his lifetime.⁣
⁣
I love you son,⁣

You never know when your time on this earth will be over...⁣
⁣
Yesterday, I was reminded of some invaluable lessons.⁣
⁣
I was reminded that your “job title” doesn’t dictate the amount of impact that you can make in peoples life.⁣
⁣
You could be the president of the United States or a janitor, it doesn’t matter. ⁣
⁣
What matters if how you treat people. What matters is how you help people. What matters is how you love people.⁣
⁣
I was reminded that dedicating your life to service and helping others is truly the most fulfilling “job” in the world.⁣
⁣
There were literally hundreds of people there yesterday. Every single speaker said the Mr. Cox was his / her best friend. The way that his family and friends spoke about him was one of the most beautiful moments I have ever witnessed.⁣
⁣
And most of all, I was reminded that God wants me to bring others to him. He wants me to not be afraid to share my story as it could inspire others to write their own story. God changed my life when I was 18 years old and I have been seeking him ever since.⁣
⁣
All of these lessons came from yesterday’s celebration of my elementary school P.E. teacher Mr. Cox’s life.⁣
⁣
Mr. Cox, thank you so much for everything that you did for me and for so many others.⁣
⁣
I pray that you still continue to mentor me from above! Mr. Cox, you truly are my hero.⁣
⁣
“Those who wait for the lord will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run and not be weary. They will walk and not be faint.”⁣
⁣
Isaiah 40:31

You could be doing all of the right things with your nutrition & fitness, but if your stress levels are through the roof then it’s going to be hard to get the results you are looking for.⁣
⁣
I can’t tell you how many people I work with that have no idea how stressed they actually are.⁣
⁣
To illustrate this, I have them do a simple exercise where they draw a T-chart on a piece of paper. From there, they list all of their stressors on one side and everything they are doing to manage their stress on the other side.⁣
⁣
Once this is done, they realize that the stressors in their life outweigh the things that they are doing to manage the stress.⁣
⁣
From there, we slowly start working towards balancing this T-chart.⁣
⁣
Stress is inevitable, but what are you doing to manage your stress?⁣
⁣
Comment below with your favorite stress relieving habit 👇⁣
⁣
For me, the things that help me manage stress are simply just doing more of the things that make me happy.⁣
⁣
Spending time with family ✅⁣
Skateboarding ✅⁣
Being in nature ✅⁣
Family walks ✅⁣
Personal development ✅⁣
⁣
The list could go on and on...⁣
⁣
There are several different trackers out there that you can use to help you build healthy habits.⁣
⁣
When you are able to control your habits, your able to stay consistent which yields results.⁣
⁣
I’ve actually build out my own tracker for my clients at iCoach Nutrition.⁣
⁣
I would love to give it to you!⁣
⁣
If you’re interested, DM me and I’ll email you a copy 👊

IMPERFECT ACTION is better than no action at all!⁣⁣

⁣⁣
Are you someone that struggles with taking action on your goals?⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Trust me, I get it.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
There is A LOT of conflicting information out there!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It can make it hard to know what you should be doing to accomplish your goals.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It can lead you to second guessing yourself.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It can make you feel isolated as if you’re the only one struggling.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
But, I want to offer you a change in perspective...⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Imperfect action is better than no action at all.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Regardless of your goal, what’s one singular focus that you can prioritize going forward?⁣⁣
⁣⁣
For example, if you want to achieve sustainable weight loss then you need to prioritize the following:⁣⁣
⁣⁣
1.) Sleep⁣⁣
2.) Nutrition⁣⁣
3.) Exercise ⁣⁣
4.) Stress management ⁣⁣
5.) Human connection ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Which of these 5 are you struggling with most?⁣⁣
⁣⁣
My advice would be to pick just one of these areas to focus on for the next X number of days, weeks, months, years, or however long it takes you to establish the confidence you need to obtain consistency.⁣⁣

Out of these 5 areas, which do you need to focus on prioritizing the most going forward?⁣⁣
